South Africa- Johannesburg (JNB)

hey peeps. In africa now, net's too slow for uploading of pics. will complete the blog when i go back to Sin. Having a burning throat. I Don't want to be sick for my wkends in Singapore. BOOOO.

Anyway, went Lesidi Cultural village yesterday. Cost us 700 rand for an evening tour with dinner. That's like 175 Sing can, Who says Africa is cheap?

Once in a lifetime, so have to spend la. Quite an exotic tour, had a good time despite my bloody throat. weather was good but as usual a bit dry. I finised 6.5 litres of water in 2 days. 1st time in my life.

the welcoming africans!

the rings on the legs are suppose to prevent the brides from escaping while the neck rings stops them from moving their heads left and right to look for escape routes.. haha. the neck rings don't sound convincing

they have clean ,colourful guest rooms if you'ld like to stay in the village for a night. I like their wall art!

The chief of a certain african tribe. There were about 4 to 5 tribes/villages that we visited that day. Names are too difficult for me to remember. We looked so plain beside his extravagant costume.

It's customary to greet the chief of the village before you can enter.

U can spit without being fined!

No la, its a custom for them to spit for good luck and throw the stone among the pile before you start the new journey.

Not paying attention while the guide is talking.

Tried very hard to get him/ her to look at the camera.

And now he/she doesnt want to leave me lo. Keep grabbing on my thighs. Small blackies are quite cute, like a real life doll.

The right hand side is another chief from another village. I prefer the left hand side costume.

Can you spot the rooster, I wonder how it got its way there, african roosters are more wild?

The hut with walls made of mud and COW DUNG!

Their BMW. When it grows old, they will eat their transport. Zoom in for its fluffy brown lashes. i find that pretty cute.

Making corn porridge.

Another village.

Their fireplace, the corner which they start the fire will depend on the wind direction. Simple and useful structure.

The last village, crunchy worms for you?

For this village, it has the highest price for marrying a bride, the market rate is usually 11 cattles. for this if i din remember wrongly its 13-14 cattles, cos the wives here are especially hardworking. This lady here is polishing the floor with MUD & COW DUNG!!! I tell u they smell really BAD, i almost want to vomit. N they call that POLISHING the floor lo! Furthermore, they have to do it 3 times daily. Indeed hardworking , def worth the 13 cattles.

He speaks excellent English.Next up is the traditional dances. Whee.

Outside the toilet. Isn't she SEXY?

I really like their colourful art.

"踢腿" is really their signature dance move. I swear they did that 50% of the timethru the dance.

And the rest joined in for the finale. Not me, i m a shy sporean afterall.

Nyama Choma restaurant for dinner

Joseph, our driver

Check out the menus. Game for you?

Yes , i tried ostrich and crocodile meat. Crocodile is too tough , ostrich is like mutton with no taste. Once is enough.

Oriental Week

Some recap of my shanghai and taipei trip.

31 Aug - Shanghai
Sheraton tai ping yang. nice room

七浦路wholesale shopping. Call me the bargain Queen. *Roars*

these china man hovered around us and keep persuading us to their store for a good 15 mins while we are waiting for the rest of the crew. Overwhelming attention from them.

I had 1 of the most traumatising experience in my life here. I was so urgent for the loo so i paid 15 cents rmb and went in expecting an "ok" toilet since they make me pay. I nearly fainted.

There were NO DOORS. Not that i never hear of it before , just that i totally didn't expect such a scenerio in a developed part of china. the so called "cubicles" are side by side , the walls are at most my shoulder height.
You see everyone so clearly squatting there. So nauseating can. And there's a waste bin inside e cubicle, this cleaning aunt will just appear beside u ( while u r squatting) use a super long tongs to pick e bin ,emptied it and put it back. Majiam u r invisible.

Fyi, there is no toilet bowl or watsoever in each cubicle. There's just a common drain underneath all cubicles draining everything from the 1st cubicle to the last one. so apparently you see !#$$%^&* n whatever flowing past under you from the 1st few cubicles.

I wished i brought my own toilet.

Erm auntie, i taking photo leh.

My long awaited massage. 1 hr of body and 1 hr of foot reflexology for only 80 RMB (16 sing). There were a few around and we randomly settled for this. Not up to expectation, but for e amt we paid , what more can i ask for? The best is still in Bali, with hot stone therapy. ARRrr. i don't mind doing a bali night stop again.

Some of my buys.

hello kitty towel for $6 sin

my bling bling necklace. Really like this one.
After touching down from shanghai on sat noon, i headed for my taiwan flight early sunday morning. Shagness.

2 sep - Taipei

Suppose to sleep till evening and go for dinner. but taiwan channels are so so so NICE that i spent 3 hours in front of the TV and went for dinner straight. It's really 1 good variety after another, i'm so spoilt for choice. Relive my crouch potato days!
My fave drink at all times. Milk Green Tea
I m so proud of myself this time round. I spent only a good $16 sing there. Record breaking can! usually in taipei, sure spend at least $100. Went shilin for food only this time. I deserved a pat on my shoulder.whaha. Ironically i spent $30.90 on my cab home from the airport. Cos my regular cab couldnt make it in time so i just took a random one from the airport. There was peak hour, airport surcharge, a raining weather and a terrible jam. Times like this, i wished i m not staying in Jurong.

No time

Quite worn out from a stretch of 5 days work without a full day off in singapore. No time to upload pics and blog.
Just got my cargo packed for Johannesburg. I think i need more rest. Can feel that i am getting "heaty " already.
Shall update on my previous shanghai n taipei trip when i'm in JNB. The only good thing about being there is the free internet.
Hoh just touched down last night and i m leaving tonight already. Boo.
Already looking forward to my weekend back in SIN with Hoh and steamboat with e gals.
Counting down......
